To Lay Soaking

"To Lay Soaking" is an investigation of the Mississippi River through its shadows, textures, and most importantly, its flora. Through a series of handmade paper pieces, I explore the importance of the Mississippi River in the state of its origin, Minnesota. Natural plant material has been harvested, hand-processed, and combined with over-beaten flax to create the sheets. Images of the river, its silhouettes, and textures have been pulp painted onto the sheet before it is dried, creating a piece that houses both the River's physical artifacts and visual interpretations.
