Leatherleaf Bog II features cattails at the edge of a bog. “Kettles” were created after large ice blocks, once buried in the surrounding mounded sediment (or “moraines as they would later develop into) melted after glaciers retreated. Water in the kettle becomes slightly acidic with decomposing plant matter and forms a kettle bog. These rich ecosystems are havens for wildlife and absorb excess precipitation and prevent flooding in surrounding areas. Inspired by Moraine Hills State Park in McHenry County, Illinois.

The State Park series features the varied landscapes found throughout the Midwest and is representative of the vastness of the American landscape. Each print features one hand-carved block and two layers of abstract color fields created using type-high wood blocks. All three layers are letterpress printed. 

Available framed or unframed - frames are solid wood and made in the USA.
